Profile

After graduating from Oxford, Tim Scott worked as a journalist and also for the United Nations in Bangladesh. He was called to the Bar in 1975 and has specialised in family law since 1990. He took silk in 1995. He has been a Recorder since 1999. He specialises in the international aspects of family law, including EU law, jurisdiction and forum disputes, financial claims after foreign divorces and child abduction. He is the chair of the FLBA sub-committee on international law and sits on Lord Justice Thorpe’s International Family Law Committee and the Bar Council’s European Committee. He co-drafted the Bar Council’s responses to the EU Rome 3 proposal and the associated Green Paper. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and in May 2009 delivered the keynote talk at its meeting in Stockholm. Among his reported cases are Ikimi, Re J, Ella, Burns, L-K and Bush. He acted for the successful appellant in Agbaje v Agbaje [2009] 1 FLR 987 and will appear in the further appeal to the Supreme Court in November 2009.
